State Health Plan of North Carolina

North Carolina takes care of state employees and state retirees by offering medical healthcare plans. The State Health Plan offers benefits such as two PPO options, prescription drug coverage, the NC HealthSmart Wellness Program, and incentives that encourage healthy habits. NC 401(k) and NC 457 Plans

The NC 401(k) and NC 457 Plans are offered as supplemental retirement savings options to public employees in North Carolina. With the opportunity to save through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis (and/or with Roth after-tax contributions in the NC 401(k) Plan), you can choose the savings method that works best for you. 

NC 401(k)/NC 457 Transfer Benefit

Members of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System and Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System have the option to transfer their NC 401(k) or NC 457 funds to the NC Retirement System to receive an additional monthly benefit. Members of TSERS with other supplemental savings accounts, such as a 403b or an IRA, who wish to use the transfer benefit must first establish an NC 401(k) or NC 457 retirement account to move the 403(b)/IRA funds into prior to retirement.  Employees with the State Employees' Credit Union, a transfer fund partner, are available to advise you on whether this benefit is right for you. Optional Supplemental Insurance

Pierce Insurance Agency Inc. offers optional supplemental insurance coverage to retirees. Premiums can be deducted from members’ monthly retirement benefit. Pierce provides vision and dental coverage, as well as Identity Theft Protection.

Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)  

SHIIP answers questions and counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns.

Medicare

In addition to your State Health Plan benefits, State Health Plan law requires you to enroll in Medicare Part B coverage, as well as Part A, when you become eligible as a retiree, in order to maintain your same level of coverage under the State Health Plan. North Carolina Association of School Administrators  

NCASA is an organization under which North Carolina school administrator groups are unified. NCASA provides to all these groups broad based membership services, professional development, financial services, communication, legal counsel, legal fees liability insurance, and lobbying services.

North Carolina League of Municipalities  

The North Carolina League of Municipalities is a nonpartisan association of municipalities in North Carolina. Its site brings together the towns and cities of the state and keeps readers up-to-date with the latest news affecting residents of North Carolina’s cities, towns, and villages.

North Carolina Retired Governmental Employees' Association   

Its slogan, "For those who have made a living and now wish to make a life," sums up what the NCRGEA does for the governmental retirees of North Carolina. They are the largest association in North Carolina devoted to working for the benefit of state and local government retirees and they offer legislative updates by e-mail, vision and dental benefits, and more.

North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association

The North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association is a volunteer organization of approximately 5,000 members across the state. Membership is made up of retired law enforcement officers from local and state agencies within the State of North Carolina. The organization also includes federal and military law enforcement officers who worked in North Carolina or now live in North Carolina.

North Carolina Retired School Personnel 

Retirees from school organizations in North Carolina, or from other states who now reside in North Carolina, are eligible to join the North Carolina Retired School Personnel. Here you will find information about becoming a member, legislative information and news that affects you, and a calendar of activities, such as leadership conferences.

Professional Educators of North Carolina

PENC is a nonpartisan organization that provides employment support, legal counsel, liability insurance, lobbying and communication services to educators across North Carolina.  Among other things, PENC offers scholarships, grants, and free workshops for its members.  PENC's mission is to promote education reform for the benefit of all North Carolina children while ensuring the recruitment, development and retention of qualified educators.

State Employees' Association of North Carolina

At 55,000 members strong, SEANC is the largest independent public employees association in the nation. Some of the many benefits offered by the SEANC include the Member Discount Program, insurance programs, scholarship opportunities, and training sessions.
