TSERS Retiree

After a six-month break, a TSERS retiree may return to work as a full-time ORP participant.

  • The TSERS benefit will cease and full-time reemployment laws apply.

  • TSERS benefits will be reinstated the month following termination from ORP employer.

ORP Retiree

There is no waiting period for returning to work as an ORP retiree. An ORP retiree is not able to return to work as a contributing TSERS member with the same employer from which the member retired.

Returning to work with a participating TSERS employer in a contributing capacity

  • The ORP Benefit is not suspended when returning to work for a participating TSERS employer in a contributing capacity.
  • Health insurance will be suspended, if applicable.

Returning to work in a non-contributing capacity with a participating employer

  • ORP retiree would need to check with ORP carrier to determine any repercussions on the ORP benefit.
  • There are no earnings restrictions.

If the participant's health insurance is picked up by the University under the Active Group, the participant needs to notify RSD so health insurance in the ORP group can be suspended until further notice from the employer.
