As digital resources and accounts become more and more mainstream, it is important to take time and make sure your information is secure and you remain protected.

• Register for your ORBIT account with your personal email address. This will ensure that you receive important communications, change confirmations and security tokens for logging in, without interruption when you change jobs or retire.
• SMS text authentication for ORBIT access is available. Add your mobile phone number to your ORBIT account so you can be verified through a security code sent to your mobile phone.​
• Keep your personal information current in ORBIT (address, phone, cellphone, email address). Updating this information in ORBIT does not automatically update across benefit providers, so you should also update information with the State Health Plan and the North Carolina Supplemental Retirement Plans (NC 401(k) and NC 457 Plans).
• Shred financial documents and paperwork before you put them in the trash.
• Don’t give out personal information on the phone, through mail or over the internet unless you have initiated contact with the person or business.
• Scammers use email or text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information and there are several things you can do to protect yourself – How to Recognize and Avoid Phishing Scams.
• Use a password only you would know, keep it in a secure place, and schedule a date to update and change your password as often as you feel necessary to secure your data.
• Keep all information in a secure place.
