After your employer enrolls you in LGERS, and within one to two pay periods, you should be able to create your secure ORBIT account and name beneficiary(ies) to receive a return of your retirement contributions and, if applicable, a death benefit, should you die before retirement. A member has the option to name any person as their beneficiary regardless of relationship to the member (ie the beneficiary does not have to be a spouse or family member).
To add or change beneficiaries as an active employee:
- Log in to ORBIT.
- Click the Maintain Beneficiaries tab on the left side of the screen.
- Add or edit beneficiaries for your eligible benefits.
Perform a beneficiary check-up every couple of years or if you have a life-changing event, such as marriage, divorce, family changes or adoptions.
