  • Complete an NC 401(k)/NC 457 Plans’ enrollment form. Forms can be requested by calling 1-866-627-5267(1-866-NC-PLANS) or contacting your NC 401(k)/NC 457 Plans’ Retirement Counselor. Find your dedicated counselor here.
     
  • Be sure to answer all questions on the form, including questions about your former employer.
     
  • Mail your form to the address shown on the end of the form OR you can log into your account and use the ‘Upload a document’ function on the right-hand side of the page.

  • Download the Empower Retirement app (look for it on the App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices).
     
  • Next, click First-time user? Register now.
     
  • Select I have an enrollment code.
     
  • Provide the GroupID/Plan Number & Plan Enrollment Code. These codes can also be found online.
    These numbers are also provided by your employer or dedicated NC 401(k)/NC 457 Plans retirement counselor
     
  • Provide your personal information.
     
  • Enter the verification code by text, email or phone. 
     
  • Create a username and password.
     
  • Select your contribution amount and investments.
     
  • Click I agree, enroll now.

  • Click here to enroll.
     
  • Select I have an enrollment code.
     
  • Provide the GroupID/Plan Number & Plan Enrollment Code. These codes can also be found online.

  • Provide your personal information.
     
  • Enter the verification code by text, email or phone. 
     
  • Create a username and password.
     
  • Two enrollment paths to choose from:
    • Quick enrollment defaults to pre-tax contribution of 4% and moderate GoalMaker based on retiring at age 65. These default options cannot be changed.
    • Choose Customize Enrollment if you would like to choose your contribution rate, your contribution type (pre-tax, Roth after-tax or a combination of both), or investment selections.
